ADVANTAGES OF INTERLEAVING
The interleaved two-switch forward (I2SF) topology is popular
for its ruggedness. Because the primary switches of the two-
switch forward converter are turned on and off at the same
instant, this topology is free of shoot-through problems associ-
ated with other topologies such as the full bridge. With an
interleaved design, care must be taken not to turn on the
synchronous rectifiers (Q5 and Q7, or Q6 and Q9) while their

respective primary switches are on. Interleaving technology
improves circuit efficiency, reduces current ripple generated at
the output, and increases its effective ripple frequency. This
allows for reduction of the output filter capacitor. The interleav-
ing approach can also significantly reduce the input filter inductor
and capacitor requirement and improve dynamic response.
